Showcasing incredible artwork created by the art students of Vista Grande High School
Aside from learning to create beautiful paintings and drawings, our art students are taught about the importance of deadlines, punctuality, professional appearance, and how to deliver effective presentations. These are skills that our students will be able to use throughout their lives regardless of the career they choose to pursue.
Our class is built around respect and professionalism. It is made sure that every student feels safe and comfortable in the classroom. In the art class, every student knows the name of each classmate and everyone is supportive of one another.
When it comes to creating art, the students are introduced to several different mediums throughout the year. These mediums are graphite, charcoal, oil pastel, soft pastel, acrylic paint, watercolor, and scratchboard. Many techniques are taught for each of the mediums, and the students then use these techniques to create beautiful works of art. Every week the students have the opportunity to present their work to the class. This helps to build public speaking and interaction skills. Once a year the students also have the opportunity to showcase their skills and interact with the public at our annual Art Class Art Exhibit!
Take a stroll though the gallery and see the different works put together by our very own SpARTans!
"Art class was amazing because towards the beginning of the year I didn’t know very many people and being in this class allowed me to meet so many new and amazing artists! In art class I got to experiment with mediums that I’ve never gotten to work with before. I got to try charcoals, watercolor, and oil pastels. Now I’m happy to say that I have at least completed one piece for each of those mediums. Art class was an amazing experience inside and out."

"My experience in Mr. Jimenez’s art class at Vista Grande High School has been nothing but amazing. Mr. Jimenez has taken care to not only teach us how to use different mediums, but the basic fundamentals of art as a whole. We’ve studied many different mediums and I’ve enjoyed learning about all of them. Everyone in my hour supports each other and their endeavors to be the best artists they can be. I’ve not only learned things from Mr. Jimenez, but my classmates as well. Ever since I was younger, I’ve always wanted to be an artist, and I’m so thankful to Mr. Jimenez for helping me to realize that dream."

"I have learned quite a bit from my time in art class, learning from one of the best artists in the world, Mr. Jimenez. He taught us to not be afraid when making artwork, to not just erase constantly after we made a mistake and that "imperfections, make your art perfect". Art was lots of fun, having fun with your friends, having a class period to just relax and have fun making some artwork to show others. I always enjoyed presentations as they gave me a chance to show what I made, and to be proud of it!"

Carlos Jimenez is an American artist, award-winning graphic designer, and art instructor. He works in a variety of styles, and is known for his "imperfectionist" approach to the artistic process. An Arizona native, Jimenez's unique painting style is shaped by his studies at Collins College and his participation in various arts programs across the United States.
As a painter, he has developed his own unique style of art, and his artwork is displayed in homes throughout North America. Jimenez has also seen success as a graphic designer, having been a Logo Specialist for GoDaddy, as well as creating several websites, advertisements for various well known companies, and designing over 500 logos for businesses around the world, including Pinal Central in Casa Grande, and the Military Baseball League in Japan.
Jimenez has painted many different subjects in a variety of styles, and the influence of Pablo Picasso can be seen in many of his works. He uses acrylic, oils, watercolor, graphite, and charcoal. His works are often inspired by life events, but also by moods and events happening around the world.
Throughout the last ten years, Jimenez has helped over 300 aspiring artists discover their artistic talents and go on to see their work reach new levels. He now teaches art full time in Arizona, and his students are taught to "let go" and move away from the perfectionist mentality. He makes no apologies for his "no rules" artistic method, and teaches that "imperfections will make your art perfect."
